All Dressed Up With Nothing To Do

You'll recall our first match of 2010, an 8-1 loss to our neighbours and current ladder-leaders Brunswick City. Well, we're now entering the second half of the season and Sunday was our moment to atone for that loss — if not by actually winning the game then at least by making a better account of ourselves. As has become increasingly obvious we were not at our best, or our fittest, that day.

But atonement will have to wait for another day. Ten minutes before kickoff the referee reluctantly made a decision to postpone the match due to the state of poor Sumner Park. (He was reluctant because both teams were dressed and ready to play, and because he drove all the way from Epping.) Although the sun was out and pleasantly warm on the back, heavy rain and foot traffic over the past few days had rendered the ground a sodden, slippery, muddy mess and there were a few large pools of water clustered around the eastern touchline.

A disappointing decision but a sensible one.

On the bright side, Jane, who just five weeks ago gave birth to her second, now has an extra week to strengthen her pelvic floor muscles (good luck with that, Janey), and absentees and injured players Bridget, Rosie, Liz and Jess should be back on deck for the rescheduled match.

And should Bridget return from South Africa with a vuvuzela as promised we will now face City not only with a near full-contingent of players but a weapon of mass distraction.
